Jake & Will: CONTEST WARRIORS

Two filmmakers chasing the dream of producing their first feature film...
...and financing it solely through winning video contests.

We have been predicting the future for years, and when I say future, I mean internet media trends that make it to the main stream. When I was in college I was a huge fan of a comedy troupe known as the Lonely Island. They started off making funny internet shorts, became writers for SNL, wrote and directed a feature film released by Paramount and quickly became responsible for some of the most popular viral videos on the internet to date. Think, "Lazy Sunday," "Dick in a Box," and the most recent sensation "Jizz in My Pants." If you haven't seen them already on Hulu, you should: http://www.hulu.com/

The second future prediction was for Waverly Films. A brilliant Brooklyn based production company that started as friends from college, but have since blown up to do music videos and commercials for huge clients that include Sprite, Death Cab for Cutie, MTV, Fatboy Slim, and Absolute Vodka. We were fans of them way back in the day when they were just making spec commercials and selling bootleg copies of their work out of their trunks.

The third is College Humor's Jake and Amir, who went from relative anonymity to being some of the highest watched videos on the site. They were recently offered their own show on MTV. Shit, we were fans of them before they were even Jake and Amir. We calls em likes we see's 'em.

And if all goes according to plan, WE will be the next success story you're reading about in the New York Times or other preferred source of news. We're 3 for 3 so far... so here's to the future.
